What God Did in Manila: 7 Jails, 53 Teenage Evangelists, and 45,924 Gospel Responses

For four weeks, our team of 12 evangelists served throughout Manila, Philippines, proclaiming the Gospel in communities, churches, streets, and even seven jails.

By the end of the mission, we had conducted 169 outreaches, reached 65,740 people, and saw 45,924 people respond to the Gospel.

Those numbers are incredible.

But behind every number is a person.

A teenager who needed hope.

A prisoner who needed forgiveness.

A boy hearing the Gospel for the first time.

A young person searching for freedom.

These are some of the stories behind what God did in Manila.

When the Doors Closed, God Opened Others

Our original plan was to spend much of the mission conducting youth outreaches in communities.

But difficult weather conditions caused numerous outreaches to be cancelled.

At first, it looked like an obstacle.

Instead of stopping, however, we began asking a different question:

“Lord, where are You opening a door?”

God opened doors we never expected.

Our team ended up preaching the Gospel in seven jails in just two days.

I will never forget looking into the faces of those inmates.

Some had only recently arrived. Others were facing years or even life in prison.

As I looked at them, I was reminded of something simple but profound:

I am no better than these men. I have sinned too. The only difference is the grace of God.

And that same grace is available to them.

As we preached, grown men wept in the presence of God.

At one of the jails, several men came forward afterward and simply asked us to pray for them. They had tears in their eyes as they thanked us.

I didn't do anything extraordinary.

I simply went where God opened the door and proclaimed the Gospel.

Jesus calls us to remember those who are in prison, and we had the privilege of doing exactly that.

Teenagers Became Evangelists

Near the end of the mission, we trained 53 teenagers to share the Gospel.

Then we sent them out.

Some were as young as 12 years old.

Three 12-year-old girls went into their neighborhood and shared Jesus with 12 people.

Two other teenagers shared the Gospel with 22 people in about an hour.

They weren't waiting until they were older.

They weren't waiting until they had years of ministry experience.

They simply believed that Jesus had changed their lives, and they wanted other people to know Him.

That is exactly what we want to see happen.

We don't just want to preach to young people.

We want to equip young people to preach Jesus to others.

Jesus Is Still Setting People Free

Some of the most powerful moments of the mission happened during times of prayer with teenagers.

One young girl came forward in tears and was held by one of our leaders as she prayed.

Later, she shared how deeply she had been struggling and how hopeless she had felt.

But that day, she testified that Jesus had set her free.

Another young man had been struggling deeply and had cried out to God, wondering whether God was listening.

After the service, he came to one of our team members and asked for a hug.

Then he asked us to pray for him.

These moments remind me why we go.

People don't just need another program.

They need Jesus.

One Voice Can Reach Thousands

At one outreach, we preached the Gospel to approximately 97 youth.

Among them was a young actress in the Philippines with a significant social-media following and influence among young people.

Before we preached, she helped lead one of the Christian songs.

Then she prayed with us to receive Christ.

We also prayed for the Holy Spirit to fill them, and many began weeping in God's presence.

It reminded me that influence is not ultimately about fame.

God can use one person's influence to point thousands of others toward Jesus.

My prayer is that God would use this young woman not simply for her own success, but for His purposes and His Gospel.

The Numbers Tell a Story

When we look at the results from the mission, it is easy to focus on the numbers:

169 outreaches.

65,740 people reached.

45,924 Gospel responses.

53 teenagers trained to evangelize.

7 jails reached in 2 days.

But every number represents a person.

A face.

A story.

A decision.

A life that matters to God.

That is why we go.

Not because statistics look impressive.

Not because we want to build an organization.

We go because Jesus is worth knowing, and people need to hear about Him.

Thank You for Helping Make This Possible

This mission did not happen because of one person.

It happened because people prayed.

People gave.

People encouraged us.

People believed in the mission.

Our partners helped make it possible for our team to travel, preach the Gospel, train young evangelists, enter communities, and minister to people who desperately needed hope.

To everyone who prayed, gave, encouraged, or stood with us:

thank you.

You may not have stood in the jail with us.

You may not have walked through the streets with those teenagers.

You may not have preached to those students.

But you helped send us there.

I don't take that lightly.

The Mission Continues

And we are not slowing down.

On September 16, I will fly back to the Philippines to lead another team in evangelism for approximately a month.

There are still thousands of people who need to hear the Gospel.

There are more young people who need to be equipped.

There are more communities, churches, and places where the Gospel needs to be preached.

The mission continues.

And our prayer remains simple:

That people would encounter Jesus, be transformed by His grace, and become witnesses who take the Gospel to others.
